Cultivate strives to engage leaders, inspire up & comers and ignite nonprofits and entrepreneurs.
This year we will host keynote speaker Derreck Kayongo, CEO at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, who will bring his unique prospective to the audience with a presentation centered around “Tapping Your Power to Create Social Change”.
Our goal is that his presentation and personal example of philanthropic entrepreneurship will set an inspirational tone for the day and lead us to a more specific conversation around the ability of individuals to create both local and global impact through incremental change in the Fox Cities.
Laura Zabel is the Executive Director of Springboard for the Arts, which operates Creative Exchange, a platform for sharing free toolkits, resources, and profiles to help artists and citizens collaborate on replicating successful and engaging community projects.
An expert on the relationship between the arts and community development, Zabel has spoken at leading conferences and events including the Aspen Ideas Festival, the Urban Land Institute, and Americans for the Arts. A 2014 Bush Foundation Fellow, Zabel’s insights on industry trends have also been featured in outlets from The Guardian to The New York Times. Zabel serves on the board of directors of the Center for Performance and Civic Practice and the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers.
Ryan Tretow, Creative Entrepreneur at TRETOW, LLC and Architectural Designer for Kahler Slater in Milwaukee will also provide a brief presentation around the power of pop-up spaces, the impact of community art and the importance of design in a community.
Cody Muenster, the head business coach at Outstanding Pros and founder of multiple small businesses locally will be giving a short presentation on the power of giving back, or how “Doing good is good for business”.
There will be a video presentation demonstrating some of the projects and outcomes that have come to fruition over the past year (post Cultivate 2015) and that align with the many ideas that were discussed & presented at the last event. The video will specifically highlight assets such as Fox Cities Restaurant Week, The Draw, The Artery and the Alley Project; all of which are specific examples of social innovation in the Fox Cities.
